Trip Overview
Trails of wild elephants can be found in the Nam Ha National Protected Area-an ASEAN Heritage Site (Nam Ha NPA) southeast of Muang Sing where elephants live a nomadic life travelling between Laos-China. Stay in a jungle forest camp hosted by local people; visit a hidden of waterfall, explore excellent landscape; visit different of ethnic minority groups such as: Akha, Yao and Tai Lue that you will be learning about the cultural between them during the walk.

ITINERARY
Day 1: Muang Sing-Jungle Forest Camp. Approx. 4-5 hours
Start from our office by Tuk Tuk around 30 minutes to the southeast of Nam Ha NPA. The trail ascend and descend the mountain Nam Ha NPA pass old growth, primary bamboo and wild banana forests to visit waterfall, on the mountain you will see excellent landscape of Nam Ha NPA. While you are trekking along the trail you will see many kind of birds and birds calling by experience guide, your guide will teach you how to make a bird call, dear barking and squirrel sounds. Lunch will be eaten on the trail, the trip will arrive in the jungle forest camp about an hour, easy walking in the jungle near the forest camp following the elephants trail, searching footprints and other elements that prove the presence in the forest of many wild lives further elephant also bear, tiger, gaur, monkey, barking dear, gibbon, wild pigs, jungle fowl etc…dinner in the forest camp. The guide will point out interesting things and useful plants and herbal medical care such as cardamoms, galangals...Stay in a forest camp in the Nam Ha NPA hosted by local people.
 
Day 2: Jungle Forest Camp-Muang Sing. Approx. 4-5 hours
In the early morning you will hear wild animals calling from the higher mountain and if you are lucky you will hear the bark of the wild elephant. Your guide will prepare your breakfast in the forest camp, after that, walk through old forest, agriculture field visit Akha village, and traditional lunch will provided in the village. After lunch walk through a lot of different ethnic villages issued from Akha, Yao and Tai Lue people. You will be learning about the cultural differences between them during the walk and the final get the Tuk Tuk back Muang Sing town.

To meet our objectives, we recommend:
  • Fitness level-Moderate
  To reach and experience a variety of visually rewarding landscapes and ecosystems, the trek hike can be strenuous at times. So it is best suited to trekkers in sound physical condition. Expect to walk 4 - 5 hours on day 1 and  a further 5-6 hours on day 2 including ascents and descents  Good fitness levels will minimize body stress and enhance your positive trekking experience.
 
  • Foot protection and safe walking
      A good quality pair of well fitting shoes with effective traction is essential. Either a pair of ‘runners’ or lightweight trekking boots are highly recommended for safety (foot and ankle protection), sureness of travel and overall enjoyment.
 
  • Sun Protection
      A broad brimmed hat is best, with water resistant ‘block out’ (sun screen cream), cool long shirt sleeves, cool trousers, sunglasses.
 
  • Insect protection. For comfort and safety  regarding possible insect bites and stings  we suggest
     
  1. Insect Repellent,
  2. Cool long shirt sleeves, cool trousers, cool socks
  3. (Overnight Mosquito nets are provided for you)
 
  • Rain Wear
      Tropical showers are an integral element of the landscape, so a waterproof layer is essential
 
  • Evening Wear
      After trekking your body temperature will cool quickly you rest and the night descends, so an additional layer of warm clothing is essential
 
  • Cold weather
      Night Temperatures in the mountains can drop fairly low during the Lao winter (December to January).  Again, additional thermal clothing is essential.

You should be aware that:
With regard to forest camp accommodation:
  • There are no western-style toilets and washing facilities.
  • Sleeping is on mats on a bamboo floor, dormitory style.
  • Sleeping bags, foam mats and mosquito nets are supplied.
